Norouz, a Factor for Regional Convergence

TEHRAN The First International Seminar on Norouz and Dialogue Among Civilizations' wrapped up in Bam, Kerman Province in south of Iran Wednesday by underlining the significance of the festivity as a factor for consolidation of national unity and regional convergence.

The three-day seminar which was held at new Arg-e Bam (Bam citadel), also stressed on further presentation of Norouz as an element of cultural identity and termed it as the biggest moral heritage of the world.

The participants in the seminar said in their concluding statement that such gatherings should be further held both in Iran and countries which are situated within the "Norouz region" and called for the establishment of a "Norouz cultural foundation" for the compilation and classification of documents on Norouz and formation of a data bank in this connection.

Appreciating the UNESCO and its national commission in Iran, the participants called on the countries within the "Norouz region" to support efforts that are underway for the inclusion of Norouz in international programs as a moral heritage.

The statement also called on the international center for dialogue among civilizations to pay further attention to Norouz in its programs as a symbol of dialogue.

Inclusion of Norouz traditions and ceremonies in text books at primary and high school stages was another issue that the participants raised in the final statement.

The First International Seminar on Norouz and Dialogue Among Civilizations was held under the auspicious of the Cultural Heritage Organization and with the cooperation of organizations such as ECO, UNESCO, International Center for Dialogue Among Civilizations, Iran Tour and Touring Organization and Bam special economic zone.
